In this painting my goal was to capture the energy and spirit of these two Andalusian horses playing andtesting each other's strengths in an open setting. Well, that was my initial goal. I soon realized that the dust became an interesting part of the composition all on its own. 
 
The challenge was to keep the piece loose and energetic (including that dust), while keeping the dust from competing with the horses as another center of interest. I achieved this by keeping the dust relatively simple and more monochromatic than it was in life.
