What The Wind Knows, 24x36in Oil on canvas
Commissioned Painting: Sold
About this oil:
What the Wind Knows was created as a deeply personal commission inspired by a powerful spiritual experience involving a Red-Tailed Hawk. For the collector, this bird carried profound meaning—a moment of connection, guidance, and recognition that felt unmistakably spiritual in nature. My role as the artist was to listen carefully to that story and translate its essence into paint, honoring both the experience and the message behind it.
In approaching this piece, my goal was to keep the painting light and airy, allowing the hawk to feel suspended and supported rather than driven by force. The upward gaze and open wings suggest trust and surrender, as if the bird is being carried by unseen currents rather than actively battling the air. I wanted the sky to feel spacious and luminous, a place where physical and spiritual realms gently overlap.
The palette is intentionally restrained, relying on soft neutrals, subtle warmth, and layered whites to create a sense of atmosphere and breath. Texture plays a quiet but essential role—scraped and brushed passages echo the movement of wind and energy, while allowing the form of the hawk to emerge without becoming heavy or literal.
This painting is not meant to depict a single moment of flight, but rather a state of being. It speaks to the idea that messages from Spirit often arrive not with force, but with clarity and grace—felt more than heard, known rather than explained. What the Wind Knows is an exploration of that knowing, and of the power that can exist within stillness, trust, and openness.
