About this oil:
Autumn Graces the Mountains grew out of my love for crisp fall days and the wide-open spirit of the American West. In this imagined moment, three riders make their easy way back toward the ranch as the last light settles across the foothills. Even though this piece began as a study for a larger work, it quickly became its own little adventure.
Working small on an 8×10 panel invited a different kind of discipline. I’m most at home with larger canvases, so capturing a full story in a compact space meant paring every brushstroke down to its essentials—no small task for someone who began her artistic journey as a hyper-realist. The other challenge was creating an engaging backdrop without overwhelming the riders themselves. I kept the autumn golds and russets intentionally softened, allowing flashes of varied greens and blues to carry the eye gently toward the figures.
In the end, this miniature surprised me. It’s a reminder that even small paintings can hold a sense of place, movement, and quiet joy.
