About this oil:
A Gray Fox strikes a classy pose among white flowers.
I wanted to capture this little guy's curiosity and energy in this piece, so I used bold brushwork while at the same time keeping the color palette relatively muted.
Not all of my work is full of strong color. Here, I wanted to honestly reflect the muted palette of the American Southwest where this little guy calls home. The greens are actually full of oranges and ochres in the background, which work to tone them down, with muted blues in the shadowy areas of the foreground. Gray Foxes truly are much more gray than the well-known Red Fox, making it easy to keep the overall color scheme more on the tonal side. However, he does have little touches of a cinnamon color throughout his body which help bring the viewer's focus to his regal pose.
